The proposals that are selected need to meet CCRI’s current priorities and eligibility categories. The grants are typically used as one-time gap funding for capital projects that increase or improve the stock of affordable sober housing in Massachusetts. Other proposals that provide services for residents in MassHousing-financed rental housing, specifically those that address alcohol and/or drug abuse or addiction, are also boston sober homes considered for funding. CCRI grant recipients must be 501c3 non-profit organizations and matching funds must be provided. All proposals and applicant qualifications are stringently reviewed and vetted by MassHousing. BOSTON – March 8, 2021 – MassHousing has awarded a total of $72,750 in grant funding to Link House, Inc. to modernize 65 affordable sober housing units in Salisbury and Amesbury for women and men in recovery.

Is Roxbury the ‘dumping ground’ for transitional housing?

Project NORTH (Navigation, Outreach, Recovery, Treatment, and Hope) assists court users and loved ones impacted by substance use by providing access to Recovery Support Navigation, transportation, and certified sober housing. Housing Support, Inc., Newburyport, $75,000 MassHousing grant funds will help create eight new, fully accessible housing units for men and women, on an existing sober housing campus in Amesbury. Effective September 1, 2016, state agencies and their vendors shall only be able to refer clients to certified sober homes. Additionally, notice will be going to identified sober homes of this effective date.

These services are available to court users and their families in Barnstable, Boston, Brockton, Chelsea, Fall River, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, New Bedford, Pittsfield, Quincy, Springfield, Taunton, and Worcester. Allston-Brighton Community Development Corporation, Boston, $75,000Grant funds will help create 14 new affordable sober housing units for individuals in advanced recovery in Allston. To date, CCRI has awarded more than $15.5 million in grants for the creation or preservation of nearly 3,000 units of substance-free housing, in 54 communities, serving recovery populations that include men, women, families, veterans, and the LGBTQ+ community.

ABOUT THARROS HOUSE- MENS RECOVERY HOME

For most recovering addicts, Massachusetts sober living homes provide the smooth transitional step from treatment back into society without giving so much freedom that there is an increased risk of relapse. Residents of a sober house are required to pay rent, attend school or work, continue regular meetings at support groups and take part in regular household chores. They do many of the same things that they would be expected to do on their own but in an environment where they can receive added support from their peers who are also in recovery and working toward a common goal of lifelong sobriety.

Housing Support, Inc., Amesbury, $50,000 Grant funds will help renovate 10 affordable sober efficiency apartments for women in Amesbury. 26.b Evidence that mechanisms exist for residents to inform and help guide operations and advocate for community-building. 24.b Ongoing performance support and training are provided for staff. Policy regarding smoke‐free living environment and/or designated smoking area outside of the residence. Evidence that supervisors (including top management) create a positive, productive work environment for staff.

Provide structured scheduled, curriculum-driven, and/or otherwise defined support services and life skills development. Trained staff (peer and clinical) provide learning opportunities. Evidence that residents increase recovery capital through such things as recovery support and community service, work/employment, etc. There are many reasons why some choose sober living rather than simply exiting treatment to live with friends and family members or to live alone. Sober living allows for a smoother transition because it’s more like taking a baby step in the right direction. There are bills but they aren’t as high as they would be for someone living alone and there are rules but they aren’t as strict as those while in a residential treatment facility nor are they as lax as those that could be expected if living with friends, family or alone.

Documentation that residents are oriented to emergency procedures. Documentation that emergency contact information is collected from residents. Verification that kitchen and dining area(s) are large enough to accommodate all residents sharing meals together. Verification that a meeting space is large enough to accommodate all residents.
